U Benefit is located in a beautiful old mill building on the banks of the River Maigue…

The original building dates back to the late 1700’s and was built by the Lyons family who were agents of the Croker family and who in turn where agents of the Earls of Kildare who were the owners of Croom Castle. The mill was used to grind corn for the making of bread and for animal feeds. The mill went through various stages of development until it finally closed shortly after the ending of the 2nd World War in the late 1940’s. The building fell in to disrepair and remained in that state until bought by a local business man Plunkett Hayes who completely restored the building in 1990 and who converted it into a visitor centre, craft shop and restaurants. The building has since been remodeled and is currently used for many purposes.

Croom Mills is idyllically located along the banks of the river Maigue which flows into the river Shannon. There is a short walk along the river bank which is an ideal way to recharge your batteries, enjoy nature or take a stroll while you are waiting for your treatment.
